Soften into the fall season and cultivate intimacy with yourself. We often think of “rest” as something that either happens to us, or doesn’t. In this series, we’ll explore rest as an intentional practice and art. For queer folks, much of the discrimination we face can be directed towards our physical bodies– how they look, and what we do with them. This lived reality can lead to a sense of hypervigilance and “guarding” within our bodies. Through this series, we’ll take time to turn inwards, intentionally release tension, and follow our bodies’ innate ability to rest.

Here's what we’ll explore over the course of five weeks:

  • Embracing Seasonal Transitions: We’ll get curious about how the seasonal change is affecting our physical and emotional well-being. Rather than fight against the natural change in tempo, we’ll honor it by nesting and preparing for hibernation.

  • Releasing Tension: We’ll find gentle movement to warm up joints and muscles as we ease into relaxation. Noticing our unique patterns of muscular tension will help us understand our bodies more intimately, and direct us towards specific techniques for tension release.

  • The Practice of Softening: Gathering pillows, blankets, and a candle sets the stage for a cozy and comforting environment. These props can enhance the practice by providing physical support and creating a “safe enough” resting place. Find the nourishment that’s waiting for us in quiet and stillness.

This practice offers a holistic approach to the art of rest by incorporating gentle movement, restorative asana (postures), meditation, and pranayama. We will also explore how to use our own hands for directing energy through touch.

This space is open to queer folks with any or no yoga experience. You may join the class live, or practice via recordings sent to you after each class. The spotlight will be on Sasha, with no one else’s video/audio recorded. You will have access to the recordings for 30 days after the series ends.
